Workbench Progress - Conscripts

$

Hello again,

What self respecting Imperial Guard army would be complete without at least one squad of Conscripts?  I plan to run Commissar Yarrick quite often and conscripts are a nice unit to use as bodyguards for him.  On those rare occasions when I don't need conscripts, having a bunch of spare riflemen kicking about is always useful for fleshing out command squads when you don't have the need or the points for weapon upgrades.

I batch painted this lot over the course of three or 4 evenings and I don't think I have a single Guardsman left unpainted in my entire collection now, not even in my bits box.  I must have about 150 infantry all painted from the humble riflemen to Vox operators to heavy weapon bases.

I am trying to get all of my cityscape buildings finished this week so I will post up some pictures when they are done.

Only three more sleeps until 7th edition, well two if you are downloading the Epub at mid-night on Friday.

Laters.

Workbench Progress - Rune Priest in Terminator Armour

Hey there, I was on on BOLS the other week and I came across this image of a Rune Priest conversion that was made using a Space Hulk Librarian, it was part of a wicked looking Space Wolves army and as a Wolves player my self I always enjoy seeing other peoples take on the Pups.

I knew immediately that I needed to make my own version of this model and add it to my collection so I jumped on eBay and picked up a Space Hulk Librarian for £20 and then started rooting through my bits box.

Within a few days the Librarian turned up and I set to work shaving off all the Blood Angel iconography and drilled out the head.  The head that I actually used turned out to be from the Warhammer Fantasy Empire Battle Wizard box set.

I even went so far as carefully slicing skulls from bolt pistols to add some Wolf details to the armour, I added a helmet mag-locked to his side though with all that hair I have no idea how he would ever be able to wear it.

I added a wolf tail and even a wolf head icon to his stormbolter and then added a few more bits of Fenrisian fetish here and there to flesh it all out.

It was soon time for the obligatory black undercoat which to my great relief helped tie all the different bits  together to create a bloody cool looking mini even if I do say so myself.

The clock was ticking on this project and I had just enough time to airbrush the armour in Fenrisian Grey before I had to go catch a train to the airport.

I am flying out to Canada for a two week holiday with the wife but that does not mean I wont be doing any painting, this mini is packed in my luggage along with a small selection of base paints and my series 7 brushes so look out for another post showing my progress in the next week or so.

In the mean time images of the new Ork minis are popping up all over the place and if the new codex gets released while I am overseas I will get a digital copy unless I happen across a Canadian game store.

Anyway that's all for now, be sure to check back soon.

Hey there 40K fans, It's been a while since my last post due to having been in Canada for two weeks and then another week suffering terrible jet-lag.  This weekend I finally felt like I had caught up on enough sleep that I could get some painting done so I fished out the new Imperial Guard models I bought when the new codex hit.

Once  had taken a good look at the codex I bought Commissar Yarrick because he is amazing now and then three Psykers and Priests.

I have a Rune Priest and two packs of Long Fangs waiting to be finished and with the new Ork codex on pre-order some new Ork models are bound to follow, that is so long as GW don't screw them up so much that I end up selling them all.

I painted this lot to a respectable table top standard to match the rest of my Guard army, I used the usual combo of base paints and washes to achieve a fast effective finish and I think they ended up looking really cool.

Well its good to be back online, I have a few things in the pipe line so it will be good to get back into the usual swing of things so stay tuned for more updates.

Hobby Workbench Progress - Wolfguard Terminators

Hey everyone, I am back with another hobby update and its good to be back on track and getting posts out.

Last Friday I spent most of the day finishing painting my Pegasus Hobbies buildings for my Forgeworld cityscape table which are now all finished and looking sweet.  Over the weekend I painted a bunch of new weapon options for my Wolfguard Terminators in the form of Power/Frost Axes and Storm Shields.  I can now field my Wolfguard as pack leaders with the combi weapon and power axe loadout which is supercool.

With the new Orks codex out it might seem strange that I am painting more marine stuff but I have a few bits on order to add to my Orks and while they are winging their way to me I figured get a few others bits finished.  I have 14 Ork boys with choppas and sluggas to paint up and I do plan to replace my 5 metal Mega Nobs with the new plastic kits but at £38 for three I am in no rush to do that.

I have some spare painted Ork stuff that I will put up on eBay soon so lookout for more detail on those this week, in the mean time lets take a look at the Wolfguard.

Power Axes and Combi Weapons.

Power Axes and Storm Shields.

 Power Swords and Combi Weapons.

 Power Swords and Storm Shields.

Man I love these models they look so cool, I want to paint up five Thunder Hammers soon so I have a full set of useful weapons, I might do Lightning Claws at some point in the future but I never feel the urge to use them.  I keep hearing that the Space Wolves codex is next in line for 40K but I will believe that when I see it.  I guess the Blood angles got a digital codex so the Wolves are the only faction without a digital codex so it would make sense that they are next in line but we will see.  If they are next then my wallet will be glad that I have so many models already and should not need too buy much on release, I want access to flakk missiles and a flyer of some kind so fingers crossed for both of those.

Anyway that's all for now, check back soon

Workbench Progress - Objective Markers

$

Hey there peeps.

Last week I managed to get in my first and second games of 40K 7th Edition and so far I like what I see.  I played the Maelstrom of War missions both times as I have the cards and 7th Edition seems to have been created with them in mind.  My first impressions are that 40K is more like playing a board game like Risk or Small World or even Ticket to Ride, in that your skill will only take you so far and victory is ultimately decided by the draw of your objective mission cards.  Sure some people are going to hate this and for competitive events the 6th edition mission will be better suited but I really enjoyed the way the card gave me something new and different to do during each turn other than just beat my opponents army to a pulp for the win.

The stress of winning through aggression alone and the worry of whether or not I have brought the right combination of scissor, paper and or rocks needed to defeat my enemy felt like it had been lifted.  Each turn I got some new missions and so long as I had one model left on the table at the end of play my score was valid so I found myself dropping my Pods on as a may objectives as possible turn one and then sent my Marines off on small skirmish missions as and when a cards demanded.

I found the Drop Pods very useful as they were objective secured so I really did not have to worry about using my Marines to hold objectives and very often a card would come up that would score me some points just because I had Drop Pods sitting on 4 of the 6 objectives.  I lost my first game at my local GW store 14/12 I think but I then went on to win my second game 14/13 so both games were very close and it was not clear who was going to win until right at the end as the cards were so close throughout both games.

So I am super pumped about playing in 7th Edition now and I am currently working on my Ork army list so they can get some table time soon.

So anyway back to the point of this post, I quickly realized 5min before my first game that I had no objective markers so I quickly dug out six 40mm bases and painted roman numerals on them and then ran out of the house.  When I had some time to ponder the objective markers I decide to break out the plastic card and elaborate on what I had already created.

MKI of my objective markers.

I cut out some very thing plastic card and glued it in place on the bases so they would look like they were covered in metal plating, I then used a thicker grade of card to make the numerals, I then drilled some small holes in the plating to mimic riveting and added larger rivets to the numerals using pin heads.  To add a little more of an interesting texture to a few of the markers I cut some plastic rod up to make spent shell casings, things were now looking quite Orky.

Next I have all six a few coats of Vallejo Model air Gun Metal and painted the rivets in Balthazar Gold.

I then added a wash of Nuln Oil.

It was clear at this point that things had become a little more Orky than I had intended so I added a generous helping of  Typhus Corrosion followed by a dry brushing of Riza Rust.  Once all this was dry I picked out some edge details using Runefang Steel and added more Balthasar Gold to the rivets.  I then added some Agrax Earthshade to the rivets so they looked extra weathered.

As a final touch I broke out my 'Blood for the Blood God' blood effect paint which I had not used yet and had been waiting for a chance to try out.   This paint does not disappoint, it goes on great and you can build it up in layers to get some great effects. I started by flicking it off the bristles of a large brush and then worked into some of them using a brush and I think you will agree this stuff looks really quite gruesome with its super slick wet finish.

This one looks a bit like maybe someone took a mass reactive round spraying blood across the room.

I think this one looks a bit like someone went and shook the gore off of their chopper.

 Someone got splattered.

HEAD SHOT!

The walking wounded.

Using the floor as a weapon.

Well that was some morbid fun and I now have some wicked looking objective markers that should entertain my opponents, if you have made a cool set of your own markers by all means send me some pictures to gwotaz@yahoo.co.uk and I will be happy to post them up.

Check back soon for more updates.

NEWS - The Space Wolves are coming

Oh man its been one hell of a year for me already with the Guard and Ork codex back to back and now my other army the Space Wolves looking like they might be next in line, can my wallet handle the pressure?

All this was found on Mexican Ork

Orks:
Grukk Face-Rippa
5 Nobz
10 Grots
1 Runtherd
3 Killa Kanz

Space Wolves:
Krom Dragongaze
5 Wolf Guards
5 Grey Hunters
5 Blood Claws

The Orks seem to have a nice new Warboss based around the model featured in Black Reach, I like the addition of an attack squig.

The Space Wolves also seem to have a new dude amongst them but the rest of this set looks like GW are trying to boost sales of their older Space Wolf kits before a new shiny release.  The Grey Hunter/Blood Claw/Wolfguard set is still good but the Wolfguard Terminators set is terrible if you ask me due to the stupid weapon options that are included.

Workbench Progress - Cityscape Buildings Finished

Hey there everyone,

I am back with yet another workbench update, this time it's to show off my now fully painted Pegasus Hobby's Gothic buildings which I setup on my Forgeworld Cityscape table for a bit of a photo shoot this past weekend.  I am hosting a four player 1000pts each carnage game in September for a mates birthday so I dressed the table up as I intend it to look on the day so the guys could get a feel for the terrain ahead of time. I know they are starting to build their lists and get any models they will need painted up so a little inspiration is never a bad thing.

If you look carefully you can see my new Orky objective markers along with the imperial barricades I posted up a while back, there are also some Battlefield in a Box craters and my Spartan Games cargo crates and containers set scattered about the table to bulk out the cover.

The buildings were sprayed in a colour that was a close match to GW's Dawnstone then given a wash all over in the same three part mix as I used on my Zone Mortalis tiles and the roads on this table made of equal parts Nuln Oil, Agrax Eathshade and Druchii Violet and then given a dry brushing in Administratum Grey.

I am very proud of this table and now the buildings and scatter terrain are all finished it really ties everything together, maybe one day I will add some source lighting to the lamps but for now I am really happy with everything.

Check back soon for more updates.

NEWS - Stormfang Gunship

Finally my dreams of a flying viking longboat have been realized in the form of the new Stormfang Gunship, these have both been taken from http://descansodelescriba.blogspot.co.uk/

GW have also dropped their Space Wolves video teaser https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xR5I52M-0B8

The above were from http://www.talkwargaming.com/2014/07/news-space-wolves-re-release-confirmed.html

So its basically half of a Caestus Assault Ram, I always thought the Caestus was strange looking with its double hull so I think the Stormfang looks just right.

It seems that the 2nd version of this kit is more dedicated to transporting troops and is called the Stormwolf.

If I get anymore pix I will get them up here ASAP.

NEWS - Space Wolves Dreadnought

Well it looks like GW just turned Dreadnoughts up to 11, this kit looks freaking wicked and I can see myself getting at least one so I can use the weapons and some of the Wolf bits on my existing Dreadnought.  I might then go on and make a 2nd Dreadnought so I can field it in Zone Mortalis with the Axe and the Storm-shield.

Thank La Taberna de Laurana for the following images.

I am glad to see that the codex will be released in the middle of the Wolves release schedule rather than at the end like the Orks as that really sucked the joy out of that release for me. When I see that a new codex is imminent I generally stop playing games with the corresponding army until I get my hands on the book and next weekend aint so far away.

All my armies now have a hard-back codex and even though its been hard on my wallet with Imperial Guard, Orks and now Space Wolves back to back I am glad everything is up to date and I can now stop hemorrhaging money.

Workbench Progress - Rune Priest

Hey there, I'm back after a few weeks of being super busy with another workbench update, I have been so busy in fact that I have another two of these updates all stacked up ready to roll out so keep an eye out for those over the next week or two.

Some of you who are regular readers of this blog will recognise the model below as a Terminator armoured Rune Priest conversion I started a few months back after seeing something similar on BOLS.

Looking back at this picture I cant believe its the same model.

Primed using Vallego model air black primer.

The armour was air-brushed in Fenrisian Grey.

I always start by blocking out a model in its base colours just so I can get the concept down.

And here is the finished mini, I am really pleased with how it all turned out, everything seems to work.  I added some small details like the Viking Runes on the scroll attached to the right leg, the top line reads RUSS.  The base turned out looking cool, I have never been that into doing bases but if this is anything to go by I might be getting better at it.

I did try to add a transfer to the right shoulder on the yellow but I had no luck getting it to sit without wrinkling up so I opted instead for this black motif.  The mag-locked helmet ended up looking cool and adds another little surprise detail for anyone viewing the mini.

I did not go mad on the cloak but I think I will at some point add some gold details to the edging or maybe something runic but I don't have time right now.

I ended up removing the Stormbolter and adding a magnetised Combi Plasma which I had going spare from the Finecast Space Marine Librarian kit.  The Wolfguard Pack that he generally joins (see below) all have the Axe and Combi Plasma combo going on so he fits in just right.

I wont know if Wolfguard Terminators can still travel in Drop Pods until the codex drops this Saturday but if they can I will stick 4 Wolfguard Terminators and the Rune Priest in one, if not then I guess I will put all 6 in a Stormwolf.

Not long now unit I have the codex in hand and I know to what extent it will change my list and how I play but I really can't wait to see it.

Check back soon and thanks for reading.

Hey there peeps, with the Space Wolves codex imminent I have been working my butt off getting what remains of my Space Wolves painted up ready so lets take a look at the finished mini's.

I have gotten quite fond of using the Plasma Cannon upgrade of late so its cool to have it finished but I can see it being replaced by the Helfrost Cannon very soon.

The plasma coils turned out looking really cool.

I have had these guys sitting around waiting to be painted since my army was built way back at the end of 5th Edition.  I can see them making up a cool Legion Heavy Support Squad with all Missile Launchers in 30K when the Space Wolf rules arrive from Forgeworld.

I finished painting these old gitz a while back now but they are going to be featuring in a 1000pt list I will be using in a four player game in September on my Cityscape table, there will be a post filled with cool photo's from that game soon after.  I have had some good results with Long Fangs in the new Maelstrom Missions as they can now sit around and score objectives and provide covering fire while the Drop Pods go in and deliver the hurt.

These guys are the last of my unpainted Space Wolves, I cannibalised everything from the riders apart from the legs last year to make more power armoured Wolfguard but with the rumoured 10pt reduction on them I plan to paint these guys very soon.

Keep any eye out for more updates soon.

Workbench Progress - Ork Speed freaks

$

Hello again, since the arrival of the new Ork codex I have dusted off my Ork Speed Freak army and given it a bit of a tidy up.  I have now gone full Evil Sunz cult of speed and spent a whole week worth of evenings painting all the blue armour on my Nobs and IC's red and adding the yellow flame details that Evil Sunz are so well known for.  I have also updated the Trukks and Battle Wagons in the same manner with a ton of cool flames so they look like real Orky hot-rods now.

These guys turned out looking sweet in red, I do plan to include a Mega Armour Warboss and Big Mek but I am not sure when yet.

My old metal Mega Nobs were given some yellow details and remain massively heavy to carry around so they will be replaced over time by the new plastic models which I have waiting in the side line.

Now that Tankbustas can move about as they wish and are all packing Melta Bombs I figured it was high time I included some.  A mob of Shoota Boyz were re-purposed and given a lick of red paint and a Trukk.

These guys are my most recently painted mob, I have spent the last week getting them painted up and finished them last Friday in plenty of time for releasing this post.  With these boys finished I have all six of my Trukks full and a fully painted 1750pt army.

I have four of these Trukk Boy Mobs, each of them includes one Power Klaw Nob a Rokkit Launcha and ten Ork Boyz.

I am a huge fan of Orks being able to ride on their transports so all my Trukks are heavily converted, more recent changes include the Rokkit Launcha and any yellow paint you can see.

Very spacious these Ork Trukks all twelve fit in just about with no room to spare.

No more 18 shots on the Waaagh! but hell it's still a freaking great flyer that I never leave out of my Orks army lists.

With new and improved flame detailing this Battle Wagon is looking great, its a shame Deff Rollas sort of suck now but never mind.

I did have big shootas on all my Trukks and Wagons but in light of the new codex I have decided that Rokkits are the only logical option so I pinched these from the new Mega Nobs kit and used them across both of my Wagons.

This Battle Wagon is the big daddy of conversion in this army, it carries 20 Ork Boys or 5 Mega Nobs, a Waboss also in Mega Armour, a Big Mek and a Painboy in the flatbed at the rear and with the flames its looking super pimped.

The big Shootas were replaced with Rokkits as they are very much the new black.

Sweet detail work on the front makes this ride look wicked.

This big pile of bitz was my mob of ten Burnas a week ago.

Well until next time and as ever check back soon.

Workbench Progress - Angron The Red Angel

Hey peeps,

It's been a bank holiday weekend here in the UK and I was home alone on account of my Wife being being at Reading Festival so I decided to get my hobby on.

I started working on this model way back in February and everything was going so well right up until GW decided to update all three of my armies with a new codex back to back to back.  My plan to spend this year painting Primarchs was put on hold while I worked my way through the units I needed to get in order to bring all my armies in line with their new books.

If you follow this blog you will know that I have been very busy and as a result I have a now completed everything on my workbench apart from my new Stormfang flyer.  This means I was able to get back on track and finish the first of my Primarchs.

So without further ado I present to you Angron, The Red Angel and progenitor of the World Eaters Legion.

I bought this kit at Games Day 2013 and kept it on ice until Feb 2014 so I was very glad that everything was in the box and nothing was missing.

With the help of some blu-tack I was able to dry fit the main bulk of the model to get a feel for where things needed to go and what parts would be painted separately prior to final construction.  There was no way I was going to paint this model fully built as there is quite a lot of inaccessible detail.

The level of detail on this model is amazing and more than a little intimidating but looking at the Fulgrim kit I can't help but think that this kits construction is hobby level easy in comparison.

I spent a lot of time looking at as many examples of what the community has done with this model and in the end I decided to follow the example of the Forgeworld team and go with a less is more approach.  I wanted the armour to look lacklustre as though it had not been cleaned or properly cared for after countless battles in the dust of the arena.  The base was inspired by me having read about the battle for Calth and later on the planet Nuceria where Angron carves his way through the ranks of the vengeful 13th Legion looking to challenge his brother Roboute in single combat.

Here you can see the finished model minus the gore.

This guy was destined to get messy.

Thankfully in the time it has taken for me to get back to thing project GW have released and great blood FX paint called Blood for the Blood God which I was able to use to great effect on this model.  The armour was a base of Balthasar Gold with a wash of Agrax Earthshade.

With his war-paint on and twin chain axes Gore Father and Gore Child dripping in the blood of the 13th surly only a fool would stand in his way.  The leather detail was painted in Khorne Red with Leadbelcher details washed with Agrax Earthshade

I added blood spatter details by flicking paint from a loaded brush making sure that the models face was protected.  The face was painted using Bugmans Glow, Cadian Fleshtone and Kislev Flesh with a wash in Agrax Earthshade.

The sense of movement in this model is captured really well by the sculptor Simon Egan you can find out more about how Simon approached this project here.

The fur and chains that make up his cloak turned out looking bad ass. The cloak was painted in a base of Dryad Bark, it was then dry-brushed using Gorthor BrownBaneblade Brown and Terminatus Stone before being given a wash in Agrax Earthshade.

I decided to paint all of my Primarchs on their 40mm bases and store the rest of the diorama components away so I can return to them at a later date.

Crushed like a but under foot like a bug this son of Ultrama will never fight again, I did my best not to over do the blood and I like to think I got it just about right.  I added some cool freehand Roman Numeral details to the armour and some battle damaged Ultramarine iconography to the other pauldron.

The great thing about the Blood FX paint is that you can build it up in layers and it stays looking wet even after it has dried.

Well there you have it my first Primarch all finished and ready to take its place in my cabinet, one down seventeen to go, Fulgrim is next so check back soon for another update.

Workbench Progress - Thunderwolf Cavalry

Hey there, I'm back with another workbench update and this time its with my Thunderwolf Cavalry who I actually finished painting last Friday.

I rushed out and bought these guys on release and had them built by the end of the day then after some play testing during the tail end of 5th edition I decided they were something I would be running in many of my army lists.  Sadly by the time they were next in line on my work bench 6th and rolled round and a dedicated assault unit was then out of the question so the Thunder Cav were shelved.

Time passed and I eventually cannibalised the riders apart for the legs to help me bolster my power armoured combi weapon wolf Guard pack and even thought about selling the mounts on eBay.

More time passed and 7th edition came round and I started to see new life in many of my shelved projects and once my reaming Long Fang packs were painted up I tuned my attention to the Thunder Cav.  I had enough Grey Hunter spare bits to build 5 more riders and after casting some shoulder pads and a little magnetising they they were ready for painting.

I had an idea of how I wanted to paint the mounts using the airbrush to do a 4 colour fade across them but then I came across this helpful video tutorial from GW and decided to run with that instead.  The riders were painted in my usual manner which is explained in great detail here.

Well lets take a look at the finished models, I will say before you do that I will go back and dress up the bases but for now they are done enough and I have moved on to other things.

I am happy with how these turned out and tbh its great to see them finally painted as they have dodged being canned all together a bunch of times.  The arrival of 7th edition has given them a new lease of life and I am actually using all five of them in a big multi player game I am hosting in September.

Well as usual comments are welcome and check back soon.

Workbench Progress - Vindicare Assassin

Greetings all, another quick update for you as I have a bunch of things that have all been finished during this last week.

After getting my hands on the digital version of the new Assassinorum Dateaslate I jumped on eBay and picked up a Vindicare Assassin.  I was always a big fan of the Vindicare who is aiming his rifle but I could not find one so I went with the pistol and rifle version.

My only complaints would be that some of the older lead mini's tend not to have very crisp detail and also sometimes have a pitted texture that seems to show through the primer but there are no plastic version of this model yet so I made do.

After some black primer I have a look through the dataslate to find some examples of this model painted up and settled on this scheme which allows for some military style colours to break up what would might otherwise be a totally black model.

The scale of the pistol is the only part of this model that I find a little OTT as it really is beyond ridiculous, sure his rifle is massive but we can forgive him for that as it looks totally bad-ass.

I am looking forward to attaching this guy to my Astra Militarum army for some much needed long range head hunting.

That's all folks, be sure to check back soon.

HEAD SHOT!

Hey peeps,

The small workbench updates just keep on coming, I have been meaning to finish these plasma gunners for ages  and I finally got them done over the weekend.  I now have at least 6 of all the special weapons fully painted and I might have 9 Meltaguns done.

The plasma coil was based in Stegadon Scale Green then I carefully dry brushed a layer of Sotek Green followed by Temple Guard Blue then I added a last extreme highlight in Etherium Blue before adding a glaze on Guilliman Blue.  To make the coils pop out I finish them off with a coat of Ardcoat gloss varnish.

Well that was short and sweet, see you next time.

Workbench Progress - Fulgrim The Phoenician, The Illuminator

Hey everyone, I managed to get Fulgrim finished this weekend which almost puts me back on track with my Primarch painting project.  Next up is Ferrus Manus who should not take long to finish despite all the tiny bits on account of him being painted mostly in black.

I almost had Fulgrim finished last week but when I checked the photos I could see a few areas that I was not happy with, so I went back and made some changes before re-taking these pix.

I am mostly happy with the finished paint job though I do have a few reservations regarding the oath papers trailing from the back of him as I think they lack detail and were hard to make look interesting.

I airbrushed the cloak which turned out to be a good idea as the shading looks really cool and saved me a load of time blending it old school.

I had to pin the cloak on in the end with some green stuff and super glue, I also pinned both the sword and the head for maximum strength.

I painted the golden details on the armour with far more luster than I did on Angron as Fulgrim in meant to shine.

There are some nice little details on this model like the pair of daggers on his right hip and a Volkite weapon of some kind holstered on his left.

I am really happy with how the sword turned out and the details seem to hold up to close inspection.  I added a layer of gloss varnish to the gem stones, eyes and mouth to show them up as a different texture.

The base was airbrushed in about four earthy colours and then I painted the gold and armour details.  I finished it off with a wash in Agrax Earthshade so it would match the base I did for Angron.

So that's two down and sixteen to go, I will make plans to get Ferrus preped for painting as soon as I have finished my Stormfang Gunship so check back soon for more on that.

As ever thanks for reading, please feel free to leave your comments and any questions you might want answered below.

Workbench Progress - Messing Around with Edge Paints

$

Hey everyone,

I received my order of edge paints this week, I got the full set and from what I can tell they are almost the exact same colours as the dry paints but with the same consistency as the layer paints range.

I am not usually a fan of edge highlights but I will use it some times to help make something pop.  I had a root through my collection for a model that I could try these paints out on and decided that my recently painted Vindicare Assassin was the perfect candidate as he is an army of one.

So I went back in and added some extreme edge highlights to as much of him as I could and tbh it does make him look more Sci-Fi and helps him stand out that extra bit above the rest of my Imperial Guard army.

This is the Vindicare before I went in with the edges paints.

And here he is afterwards.

So while not ground breaking I can see these paints being quite nice for the extreme highlight on something that really needs to stand out and I expect I will use them more as time goes on.

Check back soon :)

Greetings all, so last Friday I went a bit off menu and decided that I would paint some Plague Bearers for a four player 40K game I was hosting so I could try out summoning.  I had heard that the new plastic Daemons were a joy to work with and that really nice results can be achieved with relatively little effort.

I spent 6 hours on these guy guys if I include the time spent building them, here is a list of the paints I used.

Base Colours
Game Air - Leather Brown (undercoat)
Game Air - Dead Flesh (basecoat)
Game Air - Bonewhite (highlight flesh)
Leadbelcher (swords)
Mephiston Red (eyes)
Zandri Dust (teeth and exposed bones)

Shades
Athonian Camoshade (flesh)
Seraphim Sepia (horns, teeth and Claws)
Carroburg Crimson (guts and wounds)

Highlights

Seriously these guys make me want to puke they look so gross but at the same time I am really pleased with how they turned out and I might even paint the Herald next.  I am not sure what I will do with them long term, I might just have them sit in my cabinet looking cool or I might sell them and there is even a small chance of some Nurgle allies.

As usual please leave your comments below and be sure to check back soon as I promise you my Stormfang Gunship is almost finished.
